We often say our receptionists have the hardest job because they juggle so much while keeping a smile on their face.  Our receptionists are known for loving and doting on each and every pet that comes in.

Jamie Mangina

Jamie started at Homewood Animal 

Hospital in October of 2018.  She is currently a full time receptionist.  She has lived in West Homewood for 9 years.  Jamie has two Pitbull rescues named Lucky and Sugar.  She has a huge heart for animal and loves working with time.  

Jamie is married to Jim, who also has a huge heart for animal as well!

Casey Powell-Caple

Casey also joined us during the pandemic beginning in October.  She has previous experience working in a high volume Spay/Neuter setting.  Casey and her husband, Glen, are proud owners of 4 cats (Freya, Loki, Odin & Thor) and a precious older Chihuahua (Rena).  She is wonderful at helping people and we can't wait for you all to get to know her!

McKenzi Mindler

McKenzi started with us in September amidst the pandemic.  Many of you have not been able to visually meet McKenzi but have gotten to speak to her over the year.  She will be starting school for antropology/archeaology next year.  She has 2 cats (Lil Xan & App) and 3 dogs (Chuckles, Pugsley & Lucy).  McKenzi was raised and still lives in Trussville.     




Veterinary Technicians are the "nurses" in our profession.  They are crucial to the excellent care and attention your pet recieves and deserves.  We would not be able to do our job without the dedication they provide on a daily basis.

Sarah Wilkins

Sarah grew up in Hunstville, Alabama. She attended Lincoln Memorial University where she obtained her Veterinary Technician degree in 2011.  After school she worked as a LVT in Knoxville, TN for 4 years before moving back to Alabama to be closer to family.  Sarah moved to Birmingham and joined our team in April 2016.  She is one of three children and has two cats, Angel & Copperhead.

Michelle Clark

Michelle has been a member of our Homewood Animal Hospital Team for over 7 years. She was raised in Vestavia Hills, AL.  In her spare time she enjoys participating in numerous 5Ks.  She has two very different cats Linus, a large laid back orange tabby, & Bruce, a young fiery black cat. Michelle is also the proud owner of Dudley, a handsome English Cream Golden Retriever and Cooper, a rambunctious mixed pup.  Michelle lives with her husband, Nick, in Gardendale.

Brittany Trader

Brittany was raised in Manchester, Michigan and moved to Birmingham in 2013.  She has her Early Childhood Development Associate degree and has been working with children her entire adult life.  Brittany and her husband, Ryan, have 2 precious pugs: Abby & Siggy that keep them busy!

Kelly Bennett

Kelly joined our team in the Summer of 2019.  She was born and raised in Homewood and graduated from Homewood High School.  Kelly joined the military and was a military police officer for 8 years before returning to Homewood.  She is currently studying at Jefferson State. Kelly has 1 dog (Trooper) & 2 cats (Abby & Uzu) that all found her!

Ashley Elliott

Ashley is from Pelham, AL and is currently studying at UAB.  She is studying Biology with an emphasis on Pre-Vet.  Ashley joined our team in the Fall of 2019.  She is a great technician and especially enjoys monitoring patients during surgical procedures.  Ashley is the proud mom of 4 cats (Harry, Jack, Nugget & Pixel) and 3 dogs (Boomer, Oliver & Savannah).  

Merridth Cochran

Merridth joined our team in September 2018.  She was born and raised in Fultondale, AL.  Merridth is the proud guardian to Nikki, a terrier mix, and Prince Twisty, a tuxedo cat.  She also owns two male rats, Algernon and Ratigan and has a special infinity for exotic pets.  In her free time, Merridth enjoys researching different types of animals, learning about their care and watching animal documentaries.

Anna Kate Bolen

Anna Kate joined our team in Fall 2019 as a veterinary assistant.  She is originally from Jackson, AL.  Anna Kate graduated from the University of Alabama in 2019 with a degree in Kinesiology.  Anna Kate would like to pursue a career in Physical Therapy with an emphasis on Animal Rehabilitation.  She is the proud owner of Leo, a goofy yellow lab. 

Peyton Simmons

Peyton is from Lowndesboro, AL.  She is currently a Junior studying at UAB and working on her Biology major with a Chemistry minor. Peyton has been around veterinary medicine her entire life and watched her Mom as a veterinarian.  She wishes to follow in her mothers footsteps and will be applying for vet school in the Fall 2021.  She is mom to Candice, a fancy feline.

Tori Martin

Tori is currently a sophomore at Auburn University and works with us during her school breaks and over the summer.  She is also studying biology with an emphasis on pre-vet and wishes to pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine.  She has a precious mini Australian Shepherd named Finn.

Jessica Perley

Jessica is from Vestavia Hills, AL and currently attends Birmingham Southern College were she is working on a Biology Major and a Minor in Sociology with a distinction in Public Health Studies.  Jessica wishes to pursue veterinary medicine and will be applying next year.  She was a member of the BSC Softball team and currently gives pitching lessons.  Jessica is also an active member in her sorority AOII.  She has a Golden Retriever named Blayze that she would like to train to be a service pet thru Hand in Paw.
